Military Spouse Employment Appointing Authority

What is the purpose of the Military Spouse Employment Appointing Authority?

To allow military spouses to apply/be appointed to federal service positions, even if they have no prior federal experience.

Who is eligible?

Spouses of:

  • Active duty members who have received PCS orders (spouse must be indicated on the orders)
  • 100% disabled members whose disability was result of active duty
  • Unmarried widow/widowers of active duty members killed on active duty.

What are the limitations?

  • Authority can be used for up to 2 years from date of member's PCS orders or documentation verifying member's 100% disability or death as active duty member.
  • There is no limit on number of appointments for spouses of 100% disabled member or deceased member; one appointment is allowed per PCS order for relocating spouse.

How do I apply?

Apply as an external candidate through USAJobs. Must meet job qualifications. May be utilized for permanent, TERM, or temporary appointment.
