Offutt AFB Vet Clinic - Microchipping Policy

Microchipping Requirement
Attention, residents of Base Housing: Offutt AFB recently passed a new animal control policy stating that pet microchips are required as a definitive means of animal identification when residing in OAFB Privatized Housing. Offutt AFB Veterinary Services offers microchipping for pets for $25. If you live in Privatized Housing and your pet is not microchipped, please schedule a microchip appointment with us today!

Information on Microchipping

  • A microchip is a small device (about the size of a grain of rice) that contains an identification number. The microchip is inserted beneath your pet’s skin. When a microchip scanner is passed over your pet’s body, it will read the microchip and display your pet’s number. This number can be used to find your contact information in the event your pet is lost or stolen.
  • ID tags and collars can become worn or fall off your pet. A microchip is a permanent identification method that remains with your pet for life.
  • Many countries require microchips for pets traveling overseas. If you anticipate a PCS move overseas, it is wise to have your pet microchipped in advance so as to not run into any difficulties down the road.
  • If you have any questions about microchipping or the new microchipping policy on base, please contact Offutt Veterinary Services at 402-294-3089.
