Classic Film Series
The Classic Film Series will meet on February 5, and we’ll be going to the Appalachians with Henry Fonda and Fred McMurray (Call 294-7506 for the title).  The movie starts at 1:30 p.m., popcorn and drinks will be provided, and everything’s free.  Bring your family to watch some great films.

Mission Databases of the Month
Mission Databases of the Month:  GLOBAL INCIDENT MAP and DHS TRIPwire on February 7, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Library.  Global Incident Map is a fully customizable map that displays critical events happening in real time across the globe.  It includes everything from terror acts to kidnappings, port security red flags to aviation incidents.  The Department of Homeland Security’s TRIPwire is an information sharing resource for personnel to learn about current terrorist IED tactics, techniques, and procedures.  Drop by for 15 minutes (and coffee and cookies) to take a look at them.  If you can’t attend the lunchtime presentation, call the library to bring the presentation to you, 294-7506.

2012 Back-to-School Event - view flyer
On February 7, the Base Library and Education Center are hosting the 2012 Back-to-School event from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Whether you are currently taking college courses, thinking about going back to school, looking for financial/tutoring resources, or need first-hand information from the VA on the GI Bill, etc, this event is for you. The event is designed to be informative, practical and available to everyone free of charge! For additional information, please call The Education Center at 294-5716/Base Library, 294-7506. Books to Film
Due to the President’s Day holiday, Books to Film will be meeting on Monday February 13 and February 27, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Popcorn and drinks provided!  Call the Library at 294-7506 to find out what we’re reading & watching.

Professional Reading Society
The Professional Reading Society will meet February 21, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Conference Room at the base library.  “Our Last Best Chance: The Pursuit of Peace in a Time of Peril” by King Abdullah II of Jordan will be the focus of the discussion.  If you need to borrow a copy of the book, please contact the library at 294-7506.  Bring your lunch, and the library will provide drinks and dessert.

Use the Library Online
Stop by on March 6 at lunch to learn about “OverDrive” and “OneClick Digital”, our free downloadable eBook and eAudiobook services.  In addition to eBooks, Audiobooks, music and videos, OverDrive also offers nearly 200 foreign language study eAudiobooks for download.  For more information, contact the Base Library, 294-7506.

Library Computer Classes
The Base Library will offer a computer course on Windows on March 8, 9 - 10 a.m., and another course on the Internet on March 22, also 9 – 10 a.m.  Please call 294-7506 to register.  If you’d like to have people from your base office attend, and this time doesn’t work, please call 294-5276 to arrange a special time so we can tailor a class to your needs. 

National Napping Day at the Library
Snooze at the Library on March 12 when we celebrate National Napping Day.  Take care of your heart, increase your ability to learn, and restore yourself from the change to Daylight Savings Time by dropping by for a nap (pillows and free coffee all day).  Children will celebrate National Napping Day on March 9, 9:15 – 10 a.m. by wearing pajamas to Story Time.

Military Office Subscription Renewals
If the library is currently funding your magazines and journals and you haven’t received a renewal notice from us, please call 294-5276 and ask for Joy or Becky or email 55FSSFSDL@offutt.af.mil.  Subscription renewals are due by Mar. 15.   If your office is paying for your publications, check with us to see if it’s either available online (at no cost to you) or if the library can fund it for you.  The library can purchase print and digital books, journals, and research services for military offices.  GPC rules require you to check with the library before buying.  Call the library at 294-7506 for more information.

Foreign Language Lessons
Want to learn a new foreign language? Come to the Base Library and sign up for the new online program Transparent Languages!

Drive Up Library
As bad weather approaches, consider signing up for the Drive-Up Library.  If you have sick kids, a sprained ankle, or feel a bit wobbly on snow and ice, sign up for drive-up service.  You’ll put your choices on hold the day before, then call us when you’re driving up to the Library, and we’ll bring your books, DVDs and audiobooks out to you at your car. Military OneSource (www.militaryonesource.com) is the place to visit for useful information and tons of resources for active duty military and their families. Each active duty military member is authorized 10 FREE paperback books and/or playaways (audiobooks) per year through the website.  There are several titles available in fiction and non-fiction; to include "What to Expect When You're Expecting", "7 Habits of Highly Effective Marriage", and "The Kite Runner".  Log on and check it out!

Free Online Tutoring - visit site
The Defense Department has launched a free, online tutoring service for servicemembers and their families. The site offers round-the-clock professional tutors who can assist with homework, studying, test preparation, resume writing and more. Active-duty servicemembers, National Guard and reserve personnel on active duty in a deployed status, Defense Department civilians in a deployed status and their dependents are eligible to participate. Along with test preparation, the site is open to students of any age – from kindergartners to high school seniors – for one-on-one help in math, science, social studies and English.
