Offutt AFB Honor Guard - FAQ

USEFUL INFORMATION FOR EVERY HONOR GUARD MEMBER TO KNOW

DID YOU KNOW

  • All dry cleaning for your Honor Guard uniform items is free at the base cleaners.
  • Your “on week” runs from 0000 Monday thru 2359 the following Sunday.
  • Your contract with the Honor Guard is 100% enforceable.  If your workplace is trying to pull you away from Honor Guard duty, you must let us know ASAP!
  • You should be able to recite the Honor Guard Charge verbatim when asked.
  • There is a Read File kept in the office with great info for you to know.
  • There are continuity binders for each Honor Guard Committee in the office (i.e.-Medals/Awards/Fundraising/Equipment/Public Affairs/etc).
  • You must provide a copy of your TDY/leave paperwork to your Flt Sgt or OIC or Superintendent or Administrator for posting into your PIF at least 48 hrs prior to your departure.
  • You must coordinate any period of absence lasting more than a day with your Flt Sgt or OIC at least a week in advance.
  • You have access to your Honor Guard PIF at any time, as long as it does not leave the office.
  • You must inform your Flt Sgt ASAP if you are missing any uniform items   prevent you from pulling a detail.
  • There are “How To” videos in the Ready Room to help you prepare your uniform and pull details.
  • All of the combos to the various doors in the Honor Guard area (Flt Sgt will determine what you need and don’t need).
  • Your Chain of Command in the Honor Guard - Member-Flt Sgt-OIC-Superintendent-Commander-FSS/CC-MSG/CC-WG/CC
  • You must inform the Honor Guard Administrator/Flt Sgt of any personal information changes (i.e.-phone numbers/rank/supervisor) ASAP.
  • Upon contract completion, you must clean out your locker immediately.
  • Once you can no longer pull details for the Honor Guard, you must turn in your pants/coat/hat/Danner boots/all duffel or garment bags immediately.
  • You should be tracking your detail information on a weekly basis, to include date, type of detail (break down funerals into AD, Ret, and Vet), and round trip miles traveled, total hours in support of the detail (show time at Frady to return time), etc.
  • Your detail information is needed by HG NCOIC and Commander to write your medal at the end of your contract.
  • You are eligible for BAS as an Honor Guard member (you must take care of the paperwork at finance).

The most important thing to remember each and every detail is the family (funeral) or member (retirement) doesn’t get a second chance at making their event perfect, so we don’t have the right to give anything less than our very best.
